Chocolate is a favorite dessert for cultures around the world. Not only is it delicious but chocolate also has many beneficial properties and even can help to improve one’s mood! A lesser known quality of chocolate, however, is that it’s possible to make face masks with it and that these masks can do a very good job hydrating, lifting, rejuvenating and toning your face. If you’re going to make a homemade chocolate mask, be sure to use high-quality chocolate with at least 70% cacao. Can you imagine a better way to treat yourself to a home spa day than with a chocolate mask? Here are two “recipes” for different masks that will help your skin.
1) Moisturizing Chocolate Face Mask
This mask helps to hydrate your skin. Take 50 grams of chocolate with a cacao percentage of 70-90%. Warm the chocolate in a water bath until it fully melts. Then mix one tablespoon of the liquid chocolate with one tablespoon of olive oil. Other oils such as almond, linen, or grapeseed will work, too. Mix in an egg yolk - but you can skip this step if you don’t like the aroma. Mix the ingredients up and apply the mask to your face and neck. Be sure to check the mixture’s temperature before putting it in. Wear for 15 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water.
2) Toning Chocolate Face Mask
Tone up, hydrate, and improve your skin’s elasticity with this great mask. As with the previous recipe, use 50 grams of chocolate with 70-90% cacao. Melt slowly. As the chocolate is melting, mix an apple, banana, strawberries and watermelon in the blender. Add two or three tablespoons of the fruit blend into a mixing bowl. Add one tablespoon of melted chocolate. If you have fruit left in the blender, make yourself a smoothie and feel great knowing that you’re being taken care of both inside and out! Then apply the mask to your face and neck. After 20 minutes, rinse with lukewarm water.
