Seven Coffee Facts You Need to Know

More than half of us in the United States drink coffee every day. And while we know coffee as our steadfast friend who provides us with a delicious jolt in the morning (and, for some, the in afternoon), most of us don't know much about that dark morning elixir. Here are some interesting coffee facts that you probably didn't know:

  1. Coffee is the world's second most traded commodity. Only oil is traded more.

  2. Coffee, when drunk without additives, is a zero-calorie beverage.

  3. The coffee “bean” is actually the seed of the coffee plant.

  4. A coffee plant takes five years to mature, and can live up to 70 years.

  5. Trees like it hot: Nearly all coffee plants grow between 25 degrees north and 25 degrees south latitude.

  6. But not too hot: coffee grows best at higher elevations where the temperature is between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

  7. The only American regions that produce coffee are Hawaii and Puerto Rico – sorry, Minnesotans!

Stop by for some delicious coffee and our famously delectable chocolates at our cafe in downtown St Paul. We use coffee that is freshly roasted in small batches. Additionally, our coffee is fresh brewed, one cup at a time, for maximum flavor. Come sample a cup with us!
