Coffee Trees: The Natural Pesticide

Coffee Trees: The Natural Pesticide
As you may know, coffee beans come from coffee trees. Those coffee trees produce coffee cherries, which contain seeds. Those seeds are the coffee beans you grind up for your daily fix.
Do you know why coffee trees contain caffeine? It's not to give them awesome zippy powers. Caffeine is a coffee tree's defense mechanism. It has a toxic concentration of caffeine in the leaves, which are poisonous to garden slugs, and act as a natural pesticide. However, we humans love that poison dearly. It not poisonous to us unless we were to drink a lethal dose equivalent to approximately 100 cups.
Need a little pick-me-up? We can help. At Legacy Chocolates in downtown St Paul, we offer some of the best coffee in the Twin Cities. Pair it with our homemade chocolate treats and you have the perfect combination for a mood-altering (in a good way!) experience. We hope to see you soon!
